At Foster Love Ministries, our commitment to foster families extends beyond training. Our staff members have experienced all sides of the foster care system as foster children, foster parents and family advocates. FP and/or trained in another state
Currently there is no standard of reciprocity recognized at a national level from state to state for licensed foster families as each state has requirements specific to their own state. Because of these variations from state to state, it is not possible to transfer your foster home approval from one state into another state. However, all states are going to require background clearance checks, medical and home evaluations among other specific training requirements. So approved foster parents moving from another state into the state of Georgia will have a distinct advantage in completing their home approval process because of their familiarity with the foster care system, enabling these families to typically move through their approval processes much more quickly as it relates to submitting required paperwork, etc.
Currently FP
All foster parents are required to attend a Foster Love Ministries orientation session to ensure that transferring your foster home is a smooth process and that your family is within our service area and aligned with FLM’s goals and values as a private Christian foster care agency.
A foster parent homestudy includes a comprehensive look at not only the physical structure and safety of the home and nearby surroundings (i.e. – a body of water on the property), but also includes an in-depth assessment of the strengths & weaknesses of the foster parent/s in terms of their abilities to provide for the safety, permanency and well-being needs of the child/ren likely to reside within their home. If the prospective foster family has minor children residing within the home, the home study assessment will also take into consideration the interests of the minor children residing within the home to ensure that they are also open to the idea of sharing their home and their parents with other children.
Private Home Study rates vary greatly among agencies from fairly nominal fees and lab costs up to several thousand dollars. At FLM, we believe that finances should not get in the way of a families’ choice to say ‘Yes’ to a child or children in need. Families approved to foster through Foster Love Ministries will pay a non-refundable, one-time homestudy fee per family (less than $300), the cost of state/federal background checks to include fingerprints per applicant (around $55) and the initial costs of annual medical evaluation & drug screens (cost varies depending upon your fee-for-service provider or medical insurance coverages.) per applicant.
